| Lilly Frances Russell, 91, former Raleigh resident, died peacefully on Friday, February 12, 2010, at Glen Allen, Virginia. Born Sept. 23, 1918, in Raleigh, she was the daughter of William Edward and Bessie (Holderfield) Russell. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Frederick Daughtry, Jr., on Jan. 19, 1973; brothers and sisters: Edward, Albert, Charles, Nellie Patton, and Bessie Marie Kelly; daughter-in-law, Linda Ellis Daughtry, and her cousin, Mildred H. Lane – a lifelong chosen sister.
Survivors include her sons: James Frederick Daughtry III, of Raleigh, and Joseph Russell Daughtry of Midlothian, VA and his wife, Penny; grandchildren: Diane Daughtry of Lincolnton, NC, David Daughtry (Teresa) of Richmond VA, John Daughtry (Heather Bradley) of Franklin, TN, Carolyn Shelton (Mitchell) of Raleigh, Eliot Daughtry (Kriss De Jong) of Oakland, CA, Sandra Guyer (Kevin) of Richmond, VA, and Debra Waugh (Kevin) of Falls Church, VA; and six great-grandchildren: Caitlin and Ryan Daughtry, Morgan, Mara, and Alec Guyer, and Rachael Waugh.
Lilly Frances lived as exemplar of the best in Christian tradition: sharing her home and kitchen with family, friends, and wayfarers in need. She always found the good in everyone: free with compliments, slow to criticize, never harsh to judge. With her kind and loving heart, she inspired us all to be better people.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until the memorial service at 10 AM on Friday, February 19th at the Bryan Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, N.C. Private interment at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church cemetery in Newton Grove, NC.
