| Felicia Rose Evancie, 85, of Raleigh, died peacefully Monday, February 8, 2010, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Felicia was a kind, generous and giving person, a fabulous cook, and a strong, determined woman who understood and taught her children the importance of sacrifice, hard work and humility. Felicia was born September 6, 1924, in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Vincent and Rose Pinto. She attended The Mary Lewis Academy, Jamaica, Long Island; graduated from Fordham University in 1945, with a Bachelor of Science in Education. On May 29, 1948, she married Kenneth Evancie in St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Douglaston. After moving to Pawling, New York, in 1955, Felicia raised their four children, while teaching at Dover Plains Elementary School, Dover Plains, New York, and the George Fischer Middle School, Carmel, New York. After retiring in 1986, Felicia and Ken relocated to North Carolina in 1988, and were parishioners at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church. She volunteered at the University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill; delivered Meals on Wheels in Chatham County, tutored in Chatham and Wake County Schools, and was a member of the Outreach Committee in Falls River.
She is survived by her husband Kenneth and four children – John Evancie and his wife Clare, Weybridge, VT; Jeanne Brzezinski and her husband Peter, Raleigh, NC; Tom Evancie and his wife Sheila, Auburn, CA, and Helen Evancie and her partner Mitzi Watson, Simpsonville, SC – and eleven loving grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, 2:30 pm, at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 5801 Falls of Neuse Road, Raleigh. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in St. Raymond’s Cemetery in The Bronx, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, 3808 Tarheel Drive, PO Box 58129, Raleigh, NC 27690-5831.
